12 Days of Christmas: Etsy Style

Have you ever had what seemed like a great idea, like...

"Whoa, wouldn't it be cool to do an advent calendar of cool Etsy stuff on my blog. Like one thing from my wish list every day leading up to Christmas?"

Then you realize it's already Dec 3 and if you're going to do something like an Advent calendar it should really start on December 1. So then, you're like...

"Ok, well I bet I can do the 12 days of Christmas instead! Start on the 13th and do just 12 things from Etsy that go with the 12 days of Christmas song. No Problem!"
I love this treasury, love love love.

Then you go look through Etsy to get your items and realize that it's a lot harder than you thought to find the 12 days of Christmas, (I figured I'd be up to my eyeballs in geese and maids, but NO). So then, you finally get all your items and you go to Wikipedia to find out a little more about the tradition so you can write an intelligent sounding post about the origins of the song and all the folksy crap that goes along with it and you find out that the 12 day's of Christmas are AFTER CHRISTMAS.

Yep, that's right. Maybe you all knew that, and I'm the only dull trowel in the shed. Even if you didn't know, you probably wouldn't tell me now, would you.

Anyway, here I am, I just spent 2 hours searching for all the 12 days of Christmas stuff's and I'm pretty disappointed that it's not what I thought it was, but of course I'm going to share it with you anyway.

On the Twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

AntiqueGraphique

DigiMyWorld

Justin Rowe

thevelvetbee

Lisa Chow

Deadpan Alley

The whole Partridge search was awesomesauce, you will have to go and see for yourself.
What do you want for Christmas?

Four Heart Friday: A fanciful fall wedding

This week I took a position as a manager of an establishment what hosts weddings on a pretty regular basis. The past week has been a whirlwind of BEAUTIFUL fall wedding planning. I am in LOVE with weddings right now! I decided this week to feature some of my favorite fall wedding research.

I think I have said about a million times how much I love fall. It's my favorite season, I think because I live in a region where fall is breathtakingly beautiful. Like, pull your car over to marvel at the beauty of mother nature beautiful. I highly recommend adding the Northeast Kingdom to your bucket list if you haven't already (we are officially in the book of 100 places to visit before you die book).

Ok enough, blah blah, on with the hearts already.
Remember if you are linking up to the party today, link directly to your post, not your main blog and please add a FHF button to your post (provided at the bottom of the post).

Happy Friday!

I wish I had found this when I was planning my wedding. NaturallyAspen's toadstool ring bearer pillow would have been perfect for my woodland themed wedding! In fact almost everything in their shop could easily be added to my "Things I want in my dream home" Pinterest board (especially these, this and this).

This is where I wanted to show you a picture of my wedding bouquet. I heart it big time, but alas, while searching through the facebook wedding album I could not find one, sooooo, here is a bouquet I heart a little less, but it is still lovely. I also love the snippit of this dress, kinda wish I could see the whole thing though I bet it is divine.

Style Me Pretty is one of my go to wedding fix sites. I don't think I have ever shared with y'all my infatuations with all things wedding.... or maybe I have? Either way, sometimes I spend some time (more than what the Hubbs deems normal for someone who is already married) scouring wedding sites "Ohhhhing and Ahhhhing" over pretty photos like this. Then there is always the inevitable "Honey, when we re-do our vows..." conversation and that is right about the time he tunes me out.

Speaking of "next time", he will totally be wearing this boutonniere (from Tellable Design), and the flower girl will have a crown of leaves and flowers, and... yeah, I will just stop there before I decide to get planning my whole 20th anniversary re-vowing ceremony (as if I haven't already).

and the bonus footage, me looking like a freak waiting for a million people to take my picture when all I really want to do is take of the 4 inch heels I am wearing... (accompanied by 1 sister, 3 good friends, 1 distracted, yet adorable daughter)
no, I will not make that any bigger....
Time to join the party!

Four Heart Friday: Getting Organized Edition

In preparation for Operation: Get Organized Mom! (happening all next week peeps!) this week I {heart} all things organized, neat and of course handmade. I don't know if you know this, but I have a bit of an addiction to the internet (just go ask the Hubbs if you have any doubt). I spend a lot of time window shopping Etsy, because I LOVE handmade goodness, and vintage, and I can't really afford to buy either (hence the WINDOW shopping).

So, today is officially 'Get Organized Edition', but it's also 'what lovely things would be in my house RIGHT NOW if I had a million dollars tax free Edition' (that would make a mess of the title I though).

Corinne of SoMommaSew is a hard working momma of 2 boys, and the creator of this totally cute crayon organizer. I have BINS of crayons, SCADS of crayons, almost a SEA of crayons. They could never be corralled in one small organizer like this one, but in my million dollar dream I have a beautifully sharpened, unbroken set of crayons carefully rolled up and tucked away on Lili's playdesk.

DROOL... How beautiful is this jewelry holder by Claudine? I wish I had a shabby chic distressed dressing table to put it on, ahhhhh. I love my imagination sometimes. Claudine and her 8 year old son run ClaudinesLimited on Etsy and she has 4 other stores there too (2 vintage and one decal shop). This little beauty may actually make it of the WINDOW shopping list and into my cart sometime soon.

Ok, Lee Ann of ladesigns2 is ONE BUSY LADY. Not only does she create these beautiful fabric storage bins, she is also a mom of 2 and a preschool teacher. My new hero, seriously. There are a ton of fabrics to choose from, I could definately see these in the bathroom holding magazines, bedroom to corrall loose socks, and kitchen for the mittens in winter (what would you use yours for?)

Jane and Jen of SewnNatural are a mother daughter team, a seriously talented team. Check out the absolutely rad car seat organizer. I NEED this (there is a fine line between want and need, this item is right on the edge, seriously). I can't tell you how many times I dig toys, books, crayons, clothes, sippy cups etc. out from under my seat after the 3 year old terror has been in the car. Also, it's pretty. I like pretty things.

What are you hearting this week my friends?

Four Heart Friday and a little musing

Before we start on the goodness of 4 <3 F, Don't forget to scroll down or click HERE to enter to win the Chandelier stamp set! Last chance!

Ok, it's no real surprise to you guys that I love ZOMBIES!!! So when I came across this freaking awesome hat, how could I not heart it? A crocheted brain hat, oh for Pete's sake (I'm not even really sure what that saying means...) it's very well the coolest thing I have seen all week. I cannot for anything crochet, so if any lovely reader out there wants to whip one of these babies up for me please do, I'm sure there is some obscure holiday coming up for which you could make an excuse to send one my way, as always click the pics to get over there and check it out...

What will you dare to do today? If you can't think of a wonderful, profound way to be creative today, let these talented ladies help you out. The Story blog is all about the super cool gals who take a dare and RUN AMOK in style.

Lately I have been so taken in with neutrals, something simple and flawlessly beautiful, as noted in yesterday's post things are crazy here lately and I find myself drooling over white, kraft, and brown tone on tone. Is it too cliche to get on the doily bandwagon at this point? I think... NO. annakrycz shop is filled to the brim with pretties, if I wasn't so darn broke I might very well have one of her pillows on every surface of the house.

and last but most definitely not least this week is a totally rad lady I met on twitter. This story is so random... I was searching for #scrapbooking and her name popped up, so I tweeted her the link to the blog hop (which is coming right up next week you know, insert shameless self promotion here) and the totally fun and weird interaction that ensued was like magic. It was the kind of meeting that twitter and facebook was meant to create, so cool to see @Jacks dream in motion, people connecting, worlds turning, knowledge transferring, maps creating. If you don't know what I am talking about go HERE... but I digress. Here is Gen at GSpeegle in all her birthday glory, want more? Check her out over at her super fantastic blog (pic link is her shop, go HERE for the blog action).

Virtual Reality

So there were SOOOOO many pictures of this project I am trying something new, making collage sections to explain my process. I will also be offering custom albums on my Etsy shop.
From top left: I drew my template on scrap paper and then used tracing paper to get the image onto the chipboard. For this project I used Creative Imaginations medium weight chipboard for this project because I had to cut it by hand and I didn't want to hurt myself :) Next I used my awesome scissors to cut out the shapes from the cardstock and enough paper birds to cover both sides of the chipboard and create 4 inner pages that are double sided too. Using spray adhesive I added the paper to the cardstock, then I sanded all the edges.

For this prototype I used Basic Grey Lemonade line, BG paper is so thick it's perfect when you want to create mini album pages. Once I put the bird pages together (fronts and backs) I sewed up the edges to give it extra stability and make it super cute!
I find that when making mini albums they are more likely to stand the test of time when the holes are protected by eyelets, so I dug out the Crop-a-Dile. I LOVE THIS TOOL.

Once the basic bird was finished it was time to grab my journaling and photos. For this album I knew ahead of time that I would be using tweets and twitpics (I did have to fill in some photos from Facebook). The whole point was to add some of my virtual life into my real life. I copy and pasted some January Tweets and photos into a blank document and printed them out, being VERY careful to get the date and timestamp copied too! I wanted to track when the tweets were sent too.

Here are the inside pages, I added the tweets, and the pics (after inking them with the same pretty green as the album). I started to add embellishments and some hand journaling too. These photos are about 3/4 done, I was losing light so I wanted to get the photos done, I will update tomorrow with photos of the final embellishments (feathers!!!!!).

Swappiness

I've been trying to think up some fun and unique money free swaps so I can keep active over on swap-bot.com. I have hosted a few Blog Follower Swaps in the past, and just recently finished one last week (see post below). This time I wanted to do something a little different.
I just started a new swap that brings Etsy sellers and bloggers together! It's located here if you want to see all the details. Basically If you have an Etsy shop and a blog (on any platform wordpress, blogger or other) you can participate! It's been live for only a few hours and I already have 4 participating and 10 watchers, so get on over to the bot and get swappy with us!
The First Participants and their awesomeness:
EDITED TO ADD NEW PARTICIPANTS!!!:
When the time comes around to finish up this swap you will see my FULL reviews of my 5 partners, but as host of this swap I feel it's important that I mention all my participants here as they sign up. I will post up everyday the new participants :)

The Hardest Day

So far in the world of unemployment today has been the hardest day. Someone once told me that the 3rd day of anything is the hardest (dieting, quitting smoking etc...) and I realized today that a truer statement could not be made of my current predicament. I got up and didn't even bother to shower before taking Autumn to school, and as soon as I got back home I crawled right back into bed. By 9:30 I was staring at the ceiling trying to think of reasons to get up.

Finally around 10 I got up, took a shower, had some coffee and wondered where the morning went? After tootling around the internet, checking emails, posting more resumes and of course checking facebook I took a walk. It's FREEZING outside but I made it to the post office and back without getting hypothermia, no mail, sad...

Now as I sit here writing this I am so torn between missing the act of working and being productive, and wondering why am I not enjoying this more? Shouldn't I be happy to have time to see my beautiful children, spend more time with my husband, and get crafty? Why am I so sad? The answer is I DONT KNOW, but I am vowing right now to do everything I can to snap out of this!

I updated the shop and added these cute valentines:

And some pretty Thank You cards:

Autumn has been working pretty hard to get ready for her Winter Market this weekend, making bookmarks and other things. I will post some of her things in the shop and here after the weekend (whatever doesn't sell). If anyone is interested in supporting an 11 YO's dream to be an entrepreneur (how'd you like that guilt trip, lol!) In all seriousness, she is getting better every time she sits down to the craft table. She is developing a very good eye for color pallets and designing. I am so proud of her :)
